Is the future of (sustainable) fashion female?

Sustainability and style? Women just get it. Whether it’s making better fashion choices or launching sustainable brands, women are driving the future of sustainable fashion. But why is it that going green often feels like a female-led mission?
Studies show 71% of women are upping their commitment to ethical living, compared to just 59% of men. (No shade, guys, but step it up.) Sustainable habits, like thrifting and cutting waste, are often tied to feminine traits, which might explain why women are at the forefront of the movement.
From Mother Earth to Mother Nature, the idea of nurturing and protecting is deeply ingrained in the female identity. And in fashion? The same rule applies. Women-led brands are shaking up the industry with ethical production, innovative textiles, and zero-waste designs.
In fact, some of the biggest pioneers in sustainable fashion are women—think Stella McCartney, who built a luxury brand without leather or fur, Eileen Fisher, a champion of circular fashion and ethical production, and Safia Minney, founder of People Tree, one of the first fully Fair Trade fashion brands. Their work has paved the way for a new generation of female founders who are proving that fashion can be both fabulous and fair.
At Tomorrow’s Tribe, we love a female-founded brand that proves style and sustainability can coexist. Here are a few of our favourites:
Ladder-resistant tights that don’t rip after one wear? Yes, please. Hedoine’s premium hosiery is crafted in Italy from biodegradable fibres, using 99% less water than standard tights.
Finally, sustainability that lasts.
Molly Olivia started with a love of collecting meaningful, heirloom-inspired pieces. Now, she’s creating timeless, ethically sourced jewellery designed to be layered, loved, and worn your way.
